    Ordered:
    – scotch fillet tataki
    – small sashimi
    – wagyu sliders
    – pork baos
    – ebi mayo (prawns)

Stand out dishes were the ebi mayo prawns and pork baos; everything else was a disappointment!

Cool venue with multiple levels including restaurant and rooftop bar. I found the menu a little bit limited but most offerings were appealing. Between two we shared the ma hor, the kingfish sashimi, the fried chicken, the duck bao and stir fried greens. The ma hor and the kingfish were amazing. I found that the fried chicken was a bit dry and lacked enough meat. The duck bao were tasty but fairly standard. Wine list left a little to be desired (each bottle we ordered was out of stock).

Funky Japanese restaurant with very cool seating arrangements especially in the fully enclosed courtyard! All the food is super fresh particularly the sashimi and sushi. Cocktail menu is also a plus. Will be back again

This place and the other branch of them in St kilda is one of my favourite places for Japanese food. The first 5 in Melbourne. Never disappoints! Very fresh and flavourful and the menu is quite extensive as in you get many options.

Cute place for fusion Japanese dishes. Not for the purist who wants tradition sushi dishes. Brilliant cocktails and colourful and spectacular plating. Suitable for intimate dates. Again not when your date is looking for Japanese dishes the authentic way. Love the volcanic lobster rolls!

    Will come back for:
    + Renkon Chips
    + Karaage Tori
    + Field Mushroom
    + Wagyu Steak
    + Volcano Roll

Ichi Ni Nana has a great, intimate ambience in a modern rustic space that makes you happy being there. The food was modern Japanese, with a large selection of tapas type dishes, as well as your usual rolls, sushi and sashimi and other mains. I loved the renkon chips (fried lotus chips) to start the meal. These were super crispy and matched with chunky pumpkin mash and a real delight. The Karaage tori (fried chicken) was fried crunchy, but still remains succulent and juicy inside (this one could do with a nice thick aoili sauce). We also had the salmon salad, but unfortunately this one was slightly fishy. The field mushroom was fresh, and light and gets the juices in your mouth going. The wagyu steak was super tender, and delicious. And the volcano roll was super creamy, textural and delightful. Everything was on point but serving sizes were on the small side. Prices are fine dining level also, so be prepare for that. Service was exceptional and friendly. Overall, a great dining experience and certainly one for special occasions.

Ichi Ni Nana Izakaya was one of the most popular Japanese restaurant located in Fitzroy. When I first walked in to the restaurant, it was dark and traditional looking. However, when you go farther, there was a spacious outdoor space with modern setting. The place was good for groups and events.

    Hotate 5 Ways
    Price: $27
    Taste:
The scallops were all very tender. The different dressings bring variety to the dish, so you wont get bored. Would definitely recommend this one.

    Field Mushroom
    Price: $10
    Taste:
Never thought mushroom could be this good! The mushroom itself was very juicy and tender. The sauce was sweet, although I wished the mango salsa flavour could be a bit stronger to balance out the sweetness. But overall a really nice dish.

    Dragon Roll
    Price: $27
    Taste:
Really liked the filling on this one! You get a generous amount of seared tuna which was delicious. The tobiko really adds a nice touch to the dish as well. Although I dont recommend getting too much of the mayo and chilli sauce on the side, as it can be a bit overwhelming.

    Volcano Roll
    Price: $27
    Taste:
The sauce on top was flavourful, but not overwhelming. I liked the filling more on the other one, but the sauce really take this dish to the next level. Definitely a must-try!

    Unagi Nigiri
    Price: $10
    Taste:
You cant go wrong with unagi. The sweet sauce paired with tender eel was a perfect match!

    Sashimi Small
    Price: $39
    Taste:
The platter consists of 12 pieces of sashimi. If youre a fan of sashimi, definitely have to order this one, or even the large one. The sashimi were thick cut, so you get a good taste of everything. You can tell that they were high quality sashimi. I really enjoyed them all.

Overall, Ichi Ni Nana Izakaya did not disappoint! It lives up to the hype. I would go with more people next time because I really want to order the Ichi Ni Nana Platter, which is a selection of assorted sashimi and sushi. Would definitely come back!
